THE PARLOTONES BREAK NEW GROUND WITH ORCHESTRATED TOUR AT THE OLD MUTUAL MUSIC AT THE LAKE

Diarise Sunday, March 3, when one of South Africa’s most popular music groups, The Parlotones, take the stage at the magnificent Durban Botanical Gardens.

This special performance by the country’s most loved rock band announces the first show of “The Parlotones Orchestrated” tour. The tour will see the band take their hits to venues across the country in a scintillating display of contemporary yet classical versions of their extensive discography, together with a chamber ensemble which has been arranged and will be conducted by composer and acclaimed musician, Brendan Jury.

With a string of hits under their belt, the four man band, consisting of Kahn Morbee, Neil Pauw and brothers’ Glen and Paul Hodgson – are known for their professional and polished stage performances.

In 2015 The Parlotones completed three successful tours of South Africa, a tour of Europe, as well as the USA, and have - achieved massive international acclaim for performances with Coldplay, Starsailor, Snow Patrol and Blue October.

To open for The Parlotones will be Indie pop band Al Bairre. As newcomers to the garden, their combination of cello, violin, guitars, keys, and drums will certainly add to the rhythm of the afternoon. Launched in 2012, the Cape Town based band consists of Kyle Davis, Tom Kotze, Tessa Johnson, Julia Johnson and Nicholas Preen. Their energetic and savvy stage presence offers fans a real unique melodic experience.

CASSPER NYOVEST TO OPEN FOR NICKI MINAJ ON SA TOUR

Record-breaking South African hip-hop superstar Cassper Nyovest will join American rap heavyweight Nicki Minaj on her Pinkprint Tour that is set to enthrall Johannesburg 17, 18 and Durban on 20 March 2016, promoters AIREY SCOTT have confirmed.

On the first date of Minaj’s hotly awaited South African tour, 17 March, the Mafikeng-born Motswako rapper will return to the same stage where he made history last October: he was the first local act to sell out the 20 000-capacity Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg as part of his successful #FiilUpTheDome campaign.

Nyovest, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, will also perform with Minaj at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on 20 March.

Since bursting onto the local music scene in 2013, Nyovest has racked up two hit albums, Tsholofelo and Refiloe, spawning hits such as Le Mpitse, Doc Shebeleza, Tsibip,Ghetto, Mama I Made It, Phumakim and Gusheshe – which fans can expect to hear during his appearances on Minaj’s Pinkprint Tour.

He has won national music accolades at the Metro FM, Channel O and South African Hip-Hop Awards, as well as the SAMA for Best Newcomer, and was named MTV Base’s Hottest MC of 2015. The rapper has also been nominated for a number of international awards, including the BET Awards and the MTV European Music Awards.

To date, Nyovest has worked with illustrious names such as Anatii, DJ Drama, Riky Rick, Major League, American rappers The Game and Talib Kweli.

The wildly popular local artist with his signature hairstyle, dance moves and rap delivery joins Grammy Award-nominated superstar Nicki Minaj, who continues to break records and influence global pop culture.

Her critically lauded third album, The Pinkprint, topped the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2014, cementing her status as rap's reigning queen. She has garnered 10 Grammy nominations to date, in addition to a raft of American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.

A global touring phenomenon, Minaj has sold out iconic venues including London’s O2 Arena and the Staples Center in Los Angeles. She has stamped her mark on American Idolas a judge and, as an actress, has appeared in films such as Ice Age: Continental Drift, The Other Woman and the forthcoming release, Barbershop 3.

Last Night I attended the media launch of The Chuck Taylor 2 at the Converse store in Gateway Shopping Mall.

The new Chuck Taylor 2 collection have a  different feel, the fabric is much stronger with more swaggy colors, I must say that the Camouflage high top really caught my eye.

TI TO PERFOM IN DURBAN

 
Hip hop sensation and international icon T.I. will be performing for the first time in Durban at an intimate concert, brought to you by Airey Scott Entertainment, Jack Daniel’s, VUZU AMP, and Gagasi FM. The show will take place at Durban Botanical Gardens on Friday, 11 March 2016 from 17:00.
